第一节 (共小题,每小题2分,满分分)
阅读下面短文并做每篇后面的题目。从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出能回答所提问题的最佳选项。

About 21,000 young people in 17 American states do not attend classes in school buildings. Instead, they receive their elementary(初等的) and high school education by working at home on computers. The center for Education Reform says the United States has 67 public "cyberschools" and that is about twice as many as two years ago.
The money for students to attend a cyberschool comes from the governments of the states where they live. Some educators say cyberschools receive money that should support traditional public schools. They also say it is difficult to know if students are learning well.
Other educators praise this new form of education for letting students work at their own speed. These people say cyberschools help students who were unhappy or unsuccessful in traditional schools. They say learning at home by computer ends long bus rides for children who live far from school.
Whatever the judgment of cyberschools, they are getting more and more popular. For example, a new cyberschool called Commonwealth Connections Academy will take in students this fall. It will serve children in the state of Pennsylvania from ages five through thirteen.
Children get free equipment for their online education. This includes a computer, a printer, books and technical services. Parents and students talk with teachers by telephone or by sending emails through their computers when necessary.
Students at cyberschools usually do not know one another. But 56 such students finished studies at Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School recently met for the first time. They were guests of honor at their graduation.
16. What do we know from the text about students of a cyberschool?

A. They have to take long bus rides to school.
B. They study at home rather than in classrooms.
C. They receive money from traditional public schools.
D. They do well in traditional school programs.
17. What is a problem with cyberschools?
A. Their equipment costs a lot of money.
B. They get little support from the state government.
C. The students find it hard to make friends.
D. It is hard to know students' progress in learning.
18. Cyberschools are getting popular because _________.
A. they are less expensive for students
B. their graduates are more successful in society
C. their students can work at their own speed
D. they serve students in a wider age range
B
When the dog named Judy spotted the first sheep in her life, she did what comes naturally. The four-year-old dog set off racing after the sheep across several fields and, being a city animal, lost both her sheep and her sense of direction. Then she ran along the edge of cliff( 悬崖) and fell 100 feet, bouncing off a rock into the sea.
Her owner Mike Holden panicked and called the coastguard of Cornwall, who turned up in seconds. Six volunteers slid down the cliff with the help of a rope but gave up all hope of finding her alive after a 90-minute search.
Three days later, a hurricane(飓风) hit the coast near Cornwall. Mr. Holden returned home from his holiday upset and convinced his pet was dead. He comforted himself with the thought she had died in the most beautiful part of the country.
For the next two weeks, the Holdens were heartbroken. Then, one day, the phone rang and Steve Tregear, the coastguard of Cornwall, asked Holder if he would like his dog back.
A birdwatcher, armed with a telescope, found the pet sitting hopelessly on a rock. While he sounded the alarm, a student from Leeds climbed down the cliff to collect Judy.
The dog had been knocked unconscious(失去知觉的)at first but had survived by drinking water from a fresh scream at the base of the cliff. She may have fed on the body of a sheep which had also fallen over the edge. “The dog was very thin and hungry,” Steve Tregear said , “It was a very lucky dog. She survived because of a plentiful supply of fresh water,” he added.
It was, as Mr. Holden admitted, “a minor miracle(奇迹)”.
19. The dog Jody fell down the cliff when she was ________.
A. rescuing her owner B. caught in a hurricane
C. blocked by a rock D. running after a sheep
20. Who spotted Judy after the accident?

A. A student from Leeds B. A birdwatcher
C. Six volunteers D. The coastguard of Cornwall
21. What can we infer from the text?
A. People like to travel with their pets.
B. Judy was taken to the fields for hunting.
C. Holden cared little where Judy was buried.
D. Luck plays animportant role in Judy's survival.
22. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Miracle of the Coastguard. B. Coming Back from the Dead.
C. Dangers in the Wild D. Surviving a Hurricane.
                                C
Americans with small families own a small car or a large one. If both parents are working, they usually have two cars. When the family is large, one of the cars is sold and they will buy a van (住房汽车). A small car can hold (容纳) four persons and a large car can hold six persons but it is very crowded(拥挤). A van hold seven persons easily, so a family with three children could ask their grandparents to go on a holiday travel. They could all travel together. Mr. Hagen and his wife had a third child last year. This made them sell a second car and bought a van. The sixth and seventh seat are used to put other things, for a family of five must carry many suitcases(衣箱) when they travel. When they arrive at their grandparents' home, the suitcases are brought into the home and the two seats can then carry the grandparents. Americans call vans motor homes. A motor home is always used for holidays. When a family are traveling to the mountains or to the seaside, they can live in their motor home for a few days or weeks. All the members of a big family can enjoy a happier life when they are traveling together. That is why motor homes have become very popular. In America there are many parks for motor homes.
23. Before Mr. Hagen and his wife bought a van, they__________.
A. sold their old house B. moved to their grandparents’ house
C. built a new place for a van D. sold their second car
24. A motor home is usually owned by a family with__________.
A. a baby B. much money
C. more than two children D. interest in vans

A. to travel with all the family members of holiday
B. to do some shopping with all the family members
C. to visit their grandparents at weekends
D. to drive their children to school every day

Tips for cooking on a Tight Schedule
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money and time, 26Money is a topic I’ll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:
1.Think ahead. The moments when I think cooking is a pain are when I’m already hungry and there is nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials ready? 27
2.Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? 28 it takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.
3. 29 This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well with your appetite and schedule. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.
Hopefully that gives you a good start. 30 and don’t let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!
A. Try new things.
B. Ability is easily improved.
C. Make three or four instead.
D. Understand your food better.
E. Cooking is a burden (负担) for many people.
F. Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.
G. A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.

第节、写作概括(共1题,满分分)

Baseball is a great game, one that is played and enjoyed by tens of millions of people. Many of those who enjoy the game grow up playing baseball and watching baseball games. Few get good enough to be a great player, but everyone can, with practice, become a better player.
How can you develop your baseball skills? The answer is simple: play. The more you play, the more you’ll learn about the game. You’ll develop baseball instincts(直觉)——you’ll know what to do without even thinking about it. Your skills will get better and better. And whether or not you become a great player, you will likely develop a deep love for the game of baseball that you can share with your friends and family. Many adults’ most wonderful memories are of playing baseball when they were kids.
Hitting practice is the time to experiment. First, try out different kinds of bats(球棒)——heavy bats, light bats, long bats, short bats, wooden bats, and metal bats. You don’t necessarily have to buy yourself a new bat to try it out. Ask to borrow a bat from a friend, or buy a cheap used bat at a secondhand store.
Then try different ways to stand. Watch your favorite player’s stance(姿势). Try out some of the advice a coach or a friend has given you. Find out what feels the most comfortable. As long as you can see the ball well, as long as you keep your eye on the ball, then your stance is fine. You may find a better stance somebody, but for now, go with what feels the best.
Most importantly, work on hitting the ball. Don’t worry about how hard you hit it. Just practice hitting the ball with every swing. After all this hitting practice, you’ll find your hitting will get better and better. Your body will know exactly what to do. In the end, without even trying, you’ll start hitting the ball harder.

M: But we really want green ones.
W: In that case, it will be more expensive.

W: Almost. Here, you can take the news section. And the entertainment section is in the livingroom.
M: Oh, I just want to read the sports section.
Text 3: M: I need a summer job that will give me some exercise.
W: How about being a life guard?

M: Tour guide is a good idea. I’d walk all day.
Text 4: M: Are you going on holiday with your brother again this year?
W: Yes. He’s coming home from Canada tomorrow.
  M: Where are you going?
W: I’ve already booked a hotel in Turkey, but my brother wanted t o go to Italy, so I hope he doesn’t mind.

W: All right. I’ve got it.
M: Then, we have to go on with our reading for English. The history teacher wants us to read the chapter on the History of London for tomorrow, and write down the most important dates and events in that chapter.
  W: Anything else? Ah…music?
M: No, we haven’t any music homework, but the science teacher is giving us a test on Friday, so we have to study for that.
W: Oh no. I’m so bad at science. I hate it. Thanks, Jack.
M: Don’t mention it. See you tomorrow.
Text 7: (8-9)
M: Still feeling ill?
W: Yes. That medicine hasn’t helped. Not a good start to our vacation, I’m afraid.
M: Do you have any idea what caused it?
W: Well, I thought it might be last night’s dinner.
M: But I’m fine. Could it be the heat? It’s enough to make anyone ill.
W: I know. But we’ve been here a week now. Anyway, I’ve been careful in the sun and I’ve been drinking bottles of water.
M: Then we’d better stay in the hotel today.
Text 8: (10-12)

W: I’d love to, but I’m really busy this weekend.
  M: That’s too bad.

Text 9: (13-15)
Well, we are now looking at ways to make shopping less tiring. You know, a day at the shops wears people out. And we considered a number of ideas. Carrying shopping around is very tiring, and we looked at ways to avoid that. We thought of hiring out small electrically driven cars to shoppers, but we came up against problems of space. There just isn’t enough room. We also thought about those moving walk ways, like the ones you see at the airports. We decided it against then though, because they require a major redesign of the whole center. What we have actually come up with is a new technology where you buy what you want and then just leave it on the shelf. That way, you don’t need to carry your heavy shopping around with you all day. When you want to go home, our computer system automatically sends everything you’ve bought to your exit point, and you pick it up there. 命题人嘉善中学 章侠
